In celebration of National Apprenticeship Week, we’ve spoken to Emils Smilga, Apprentice Engineer at Amberley Labels in Boston. One of the newest recruits to our programme, Emils is currently in the first year of a three year engineering course. Discover why Emils chose an apprenticeship, what it’s like as an apprentice working at Amberley and his favourite parts of the role.
Why did you choose an apprenticeship?
I chose an apprenticeship because I feel it is the most educating and enjoyable way to get a career. You learn new skills daily through theory and practical work and to me that’s the most efficient way of learning.
What do you enjoy about your role?
Daily, I deal with new challenges and enjoy learning how to fix them, which makes everyday a refreshing challenge. You never know what you will walk into the next shift and that keeps me excited to come to work.
What is your favourite thing about working at Amberley Labels?
My favourite thing about working at Amberley is the opportunity to meet new people and gain knowledge from them about all of the different machines and processes. I enjoy building new relationships and here at Amberley and Coveris everyone is really friendly and welcoming.
What is your proudest moment working at Amberley?
I have only been in my apprenticeship for a couple of months so still learning about my job role and the site. Before this I was supporting the Coveris St Neots site in the warehouse and was proud to be considered an important enough member of the team that they didn’t want to lose me.
Thanks for giving us an insight into your role Emils!
